Centering Equity in Substance Abuse Prevention Work

centering equity.jpeg

Advancing health equity requires agencies and individuals to center health equity, conduct a critical analysis of history, recognize power dynamics, reflect on personal bias and agency impact, as well as maintain a commitment to community building. During this session, participants will learn about the intersection of socially and culturally constructed programs and policies. Participants will also review historical events to purposefully advance equity and justice.

By the end of the session, participants will be able:

• To define relevant terms including but not limited to intersectionality, cultural humility, cultural consciousness, and socialization.

To identify and select two considerations from history that may impact or can inform their current work.
