URGENT - Compensatory Education For Special Education Students in NJ

There is a critical, time-sensitive role we can play to support children who may be owed compensatory special education services in NJ! Children with IEPs may be owed compensatory education for services that they did not receive due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Time is running out though, so please act quickly!
The deadline to file a claim is August 31, 2023! 

What you can do to help:

If you are the child's CASA: Please share the link to this page with the caregiver. (You can send it in an email, or copy and paste the link as a text message.)

If you are the child's caregiver:

  1. Read the attached letter from the Office of the Law Guardian, which explains in more detail.

  2. Attend a ZOOM meeting with the Education and Health Law Clinic at Rutgers Law School on August 25 at 11am for assistance with completing all necessary forms.

  3. Complete the necessary form by AUGUST 31, 2023. (See below for the form and instructions on how to complete it.)

  • Rutgers Law School Education Law Clinic wants to help families who are filing, if they need assistance with the application or the school district.  Any family who wants help should call the Education Law Clinic at (973) 353-3218.

  • CASA are welcome to attend the 8/25 zoom meeting, although they cannot file the form on behalf of their CASA child.

  • Birth parents

  • Resource parents

  • Caregivers

  • Appointed educational surrogates.
